The photographic exhibition will bring together a collection of photographs by Yuri Mechitov - the man behind the most famous pictures of the maestro. To Yuri Mechitov, a Georgian photographer, Paradjanov was not only a great director but a close friend, an inspiring teacher and an extraordinary man. His relationship with Paradjanov led him to chronicle Paradjanov’s life in its everyday manifestations and creative outbursts. The exhibition is composed of rarely seen photographs taken by Mechitov during his 11 year friendship with the director, as well as some of the most famous ones - including a few staged by Paradjanov himself.
The moments captured by Mechitov’s camera reveal uncover a kaleidoscope of amusing situations, contrasting moods, remarkable filmmaking occasions and expressive backdrops. These images reveal Paradjanov as a man, a friend and an artist with a love for life and beauty. The exhibited photographs are featured in Mechitov’s recently published book “Sergei Paradjanov. The Chronicle of the Dialogue” where Yuri shares his observations and memories.
